‘Poisoned fruit’ of identity politics creates a situation ‘ripe for tribal warfare’

Speaking of the race-based riots across the United States, Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says the “poisoned fruit” of identity politics has divided people into tribes which has created a situation ripe for “tribal warfare”.

Mr Floyd, aged 46, died after a police officer was filmed kneeling on his neck for almost nine minutes during his arrest for allegedly using a fake $20 note in a shop, despite him warning that he could not breathe.

Peaceful protests against police brutality rapidly erupted into violent riots which spread rapidly across the United states and are believed to have been spurred on by Left-wing extremist groups such as Antifa.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has spoken out saying “the press isn’t simply covering the riots, but assisting the riots”.

Mr Canavan said, “the Black Lives Matter movement … have done themselves an enormous disservice this week and they have lost average people across the world through the consequences of what has happened”.

“Identity politics has become so entrenched in our Western culture that it has too strong a pull on a significant minority of people”.
