After Justice Antonin Scalia died in 2016, then-president Barack Obama submitted his Supreme Court nominee, and the Republican-controlled Senate did not allow hearings or a vote to take place. At the time, top Democrats, including Obama, argued that a president’s nomination should always be considered, no matter what year it is or which party is in charge of the Senate. After Ruth Bader Ginsburg died in September, it looks like their tune has changed!
