Some progressive leaders say that if a biblical doctrine seems ambiguous or there is tension around it’s interpretation, you should judge the teaching by its fruit, defined as the positive or negative effects it has on a person’s emotions. But is this what Jesus meant in Matthew 7 when he said, “You will recognize them by their fruit”?
