When The Gospel Is Attacked… by Jonathan Falwell

It is no secret that our world seems to have “gone absolutely crazy.” But in the middle of all of the confusion and chaos, there is something very important I must share with you.

There is an obvious attack being brought against the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. No, I am not talking about the persecution of Christians in some far away country. I am talking about attacks on the Gospel in our own nation.

Now the Bible is clear, as Christians we have a duty to be good citizens. But my friends, I am reminded that we have an even greater responsibility to honor the Lord Jesus Christ…no matter what.

The world, the flesh and the Devil are coming after us. Satan will not quit until all who preach the risen Christ are silenced. He will continue to oppose the Gospel and is working overtime to quiet us as we proclaim Jesus to all who would believe.

You may not be a pastor, but Satan wants to discourage you from sharing your faith in Christ. You may not be a missionary, but your adversary seeks to stop you from showing others The Way, The Truth and The Life (John 14:6).

But I have good news for you today. Satan’s opposition will never stop the impact of the Gospel…if we choose to remain faithful. God’s Word tells us this in Matthew 16:18, when we read that even the gates of hell have no power over the church.

So what are we to do?

When we recognize these attacks, each one of us have a choice to make. We can either cower in fear or we can rise to the occasion. We can either hide our light under a bushel or we can choose to stand firmly on the promises of God.

As long as there is breath in my lungs, I want to be counted as one who will always choose to stand. And I know you are standing with me.

No matter what our culture tells us, we must always remain faithful to God and the Truth that is only found in His Word.

Why?

Because even as our culture attacks the Gospel…Even as our society seeks to destroy the Church…

The Gospel still works! The Gospel still changes lives! The Gospel is still True!

We must never allow the Truth of our message to be “tweaked” or “changed” so that people may become more accepting of it. Even though our culture continues to change, God’s Truth never changes.

The world wants to stop what we do. The world wants to shut us up. The world wants to attack us. The world wants to oppose us. Well here’s what I say…

We will keep on preaching that Jesus alone has the power to save.

We will keep on standing on the promises of God.

We will keep on sharing that Christ is the only answer for the world.

There’s a great preacher that I once knew, a great man of God who accomplished incredible things for God. And he had this to say:

“God never called me to be popular. God called me to be faithful.”

That man was my dad, and that statement continues to encourage me personally to labor for Christ with the end in mind.

And so does your partnership.

So let us press on with passion. Let us press on with heart. Let us press on together. Let us continue to introduce people to Jesus even when the world stands against us. Let us remain faithful.
